Abstract

In the age of knowledge, the use of digital media and computer tools allows the development of an increasingly interconnected society through multiple data networks. Many of the activities carried out depend on it. This whole situation makes the introduction of Information and Communications Technologies in the educational process a necessity, with the aim of responding to the social order generated. In this process, the digital competencies of teachers play a fundamental role, to: integrate technologies into their professional practice, as well as update the teaching methods and means to be used in order to guarantee the quality of learning. In the case of the Mártires de Barbados Pre-University Institute, this has not been achieved, affecting the quality of the students' training. The objective of this research was to carry out a diagnosis of the digital competencies of the teachers of said institution, allowing them to reveal their insufficiencies and the need to develop an improvement plan to overcome them and to enable them to apply digital technologies in a critical and responsible way.
